This section includes video clips of Trumbly taken from from a 4-hour lofting seminar he gave at the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival in 1979 or 1980, when he was in his early 60s and had just retired from teaching at Bates, or was about to. These video segments are too short to convey much information about lofting or planking, but instead are included to convey a sense of Trumbly’s forceful personality and lecturing style.
Trumbly’s entire seminar at the Boat Festival was videotaped in VHS format (3.5 hours). Chuck Graydon, the last boatbuilding instructor at Bates, let me copy this videotape, which I later converted to digital format in two files, at a total size of 4.8 GB.
Since the purpose of this website is to disseminate information, I want to make these files freely available for educational purposes. The entire video from the seminar conveys very well Trumbly’s mastery of lofting and his immense knowledge of boatbuilding. In addition, it is an important resource for information on lofting and planking. If you’re interested, please contact me here and I can send the two files containing the entire seminar via an internet transfer site.
