I don't remember whether he steamed the frames, but he is not wearing gloves, and presumably this frame would have just come from the steam box if it was steamed. This suggests that the frames were not steamed.

The frames to the left have been bolted to the stringers; those to the right are clamped in place and are being fastened. Note that the bottom two "ribbands" are outside the frames. Their function is to force the tight bend just above the garboard; they are held firmly in place by the supports evident at bottom center.
